One of the damaged oars was found just off the beach at Hamilton North Shore, near the Citycat Terminal while the other was located snapped in half on a rock wall a towards the Gateway Bridge.

Water Police later recovered the remaining piece of this second oar floating downstream.

The oars are “Croker” brand with white blade, black shaft, yellow handles and pink collars.

Each has a strip of green and yellow electrical tape around the shaft with the name “Nick” written in permanent marker.
