Budget 2024 leads the agenda as Parliament resumes for the final time before the August election.
Chief Minister and Treasurer Eva Lawler will present her Budget tomorrow morning, which focusses on delivering for all Territorians.
The following Bills will be debated these Sittings:
Liquor Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 that seeks to improve alcohol harm reduction measures by creating a mechanism to appoint ex-officio liquor inspectors who will have powers such as being able to search persons and property and seize containers believed to contain liquor. The Bill also clarifies the license authority for producers, increases penalty amounts for certain infringements, and places additional conditions on grocery store and takeaway licensees;Mineral Royalties Bill 2024 which proposes to establish a new mineral royalties regime for mineral projects established in the NT after 1 July 2024. Under this scheme, royalties will be based on the value of minerals extracted rather than profits generated by resources projects. The Bill also introduces a four tier royalty system which encourages conducting value-added treatment and processing of minerals in the Territory rather than overseas;Parks and Water Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 which introduces a range of amendments to improve the operation of legislation administered by the Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security; andPortable Long Service Leave (Community Services Sector) Bill 2024 to establish a scheme for the portability of long service leave in the community services sector in the NT.
