Roger Jaensch,Minister for Housing
The Tasmanian Government is committed to helping Tasmanians living with disability and increasing the supply of social and affordable housing in Tasmania.
As part of our ongoing commitment, the Tasmanian Government in partnership with Lyden Builders has provided a new custom-built house for one special young girl and her family.
The home was built specifically to meet the needs of six-year-old Skylar, her four siblings and her mum and dad and means she now has a proper environment for her family to give her the support and care she needs long term.
Importantly, savings as a result of the local community’s generosity have allowed the project to now donate $372,000 to the Royal Hobart Hospital’s children’s ward, through Give Me 5 For Kids.
It’s a fantastic result and demonstrates our strong commitment to deliver on our Affordable Housing Action Plan 2019-2023 which includes improving the wellbeing of Tasmanians living with disability.
The Tasmanian Government is working on constructing more new social housing that meet the diverse housing needs of Tasmanians, including the elderly, those living with a disability, families or singles. Skylar and her family meet a number of those criteria.
