Victoria continues to build on its global reputation for education and research excellence through fifteen international research projects on fields as diverse as sustainability, health, advanced manufacturing and digital technology.
Eleven Victorian institutions will receive a share of $2.8 million funding from the Victorian Government’s program, and have partnered with institutions in twelve countries, including Japan, Sweden, Indonesia and Vietnam, on their projects.
Researchers from and Jeonbuk ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ University in South Korea are developing a solar powered prototype that will turn seawater into hydrogen, with enough power to drive a heavy truck for 100km.
and in the United States are working together to develop a new way of printing small, lightweight metals in space. Building on an ongoing collaboration with MELD Technology, this project will use a unique process that does not melt the material and can utilise any available scrap metal.
and Grande Prairie Regional College in Canada will collaborate to create a new online learning platform for nursing education, including virtual reality. International collaboration for nursing education has become increasingly important and the project will support the development of the healthcare workforce in Australia and overseas.
and the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee are bringing together Australian and Indian expertise in minerals production, processing and recycling to enable both countries to secure their lithium supply chains. This project targets existing mining companies with the potential to produce critical metals in both Australia and India, including reprocessing metals from mine wastes around Victoria.
International education is a critical jobs provider for Victoria, supporting around 79,000 jobs in 2018 before the pandemic. International education also supports Victoria’s world-class reputation for research excellence, helping Victoria compete in a global economy that is underpinned by research and innovation.
