Building regional roads to create jobs and save lives on our country roads

The Marshall Liberal Government is fixing over 1,000 kilometres of regional roads that will boost jobs, build stronger regional communities and help save lives on our country roads.

These 1,000 plus kilometres of regional road treatments across South Australia’s 12,600-kilometre sealed regional road network will take place over the next few years.

The latest information comes as the Marshall Government releases planning and design tenders for seven new overtaking lanes on the Riddoch Highway and Horrocks Highway.

The Marshall Liberal Government will deliver regional road safety treatments, including;

  • 690 kilometres of shoulder sealing in 2019-20 and 2020-21 on key regional roads including;
    • Playford Highway
    • Lincoln Highway
    • Karoonda Highway
    • Goyder Highway
    • Wilkins Highway
    • Blyth Road (Lochiel – Clare)

    • Augusta Highway (x3)
    • Noarlunga-Victor Harbor (x1)
    • Long Valley Road (x1)
    • Lincoln Highway (x2)
    • Riddoch Highway (x3)

  • Other road treatments including road widening, audible road tactile marking, road resealing and other regional road safety measures.

These regional road treatments are in addition to the existing road packages which include;

  • $270 million Roads of Strategic Importance initiatives for works on the Eyre Highway, other Eyre Peninsula roads, Sturt Highway and Barrier Highway;
  • $250 million to upgrade the Princes Highway; and,

These programs are likely to deliver additional significant lengths of shoulder sealing across several years, commencing in 2020-21.

“The Marshall Government is building better regional roads that will create jobs, improve road safety and help save lives on our country roads,” said Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll.

“In our last State Budget we announced a record $1.115 billion for regional road and infrastructure upgrades and projects which we are now seeing come to fruition.

“In addition to our big regional road and infrastructure projects, we are fixing over 1,000 km of South Australia’s 12,600 km sealed regional road network over the next few years which need it most.

“For 16 long years Labor neglected our regions and the Marshall Government is investing in our regions to create jobs, build better roads and clear the backlog left by Labor.”
