Bundaberg’s popular boating facilities at Burnett Heads will receive a new lease on life thanks to a $1 million investment by the Palaszczuk Government.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said Sunshine State-based businesses will deliver the million-dollar package of works thanks to the Palaszczuk Government’s Buy Queensland strategy.
“Queenslanders love spending time on the water, with one in every 19 Queenslanders being a boatie, and that’s why the Palaszczuk Government is committed to investing $30 million in projects like these and others across the state through its Marine Infrastructure Fund,” Minister Bailey said.
“Burnett Heads is the gateway to some of Bundy’s most sought after recreational fishing and boating spots, so we’re working with Queensland businesses to refurbish the Four Knots boat ramp, repair the jetty and remove hard rock materials from the boat harbour.
“Crews are already removing hard rock materials, and works will get underway later this month to give the jetty a new lease on life.
Repairs to the jetty including refurbishing the concrete piles and cracked concrete, and replacing damaged bumpers, corroded fixings and brackets.
“It’s a great result for local boaties and a boon for the state and region’s economy.”
Removal of the hard rock materials are expected to be complete early March, while jetty works are expected to be complete ahead of the April school holidays, weather permitting.
Works on the Four Knots boat ramp will commence in mid-February and are expected to be complete early March.
The jetty will be closed while repairs are made, and the boat ramp will be closed while it is refurbished with boaties still able to access ramps at McGills Road, Kalkie or at the Burnett Heads Boat Harbour.
