Police have charged a man following the alleged dangerous driving of two stolen vehicles across Mudgeeraba and surrounding suburbs yesterday afternoon, Monday August 15.
It will be alleged an 18-year-old Mudgeeraba man stole a 2015 mauve Honda CRV from a Douma Drive, Mudgeeraba address around 2.45pm.
A short time later the vehicle was allegedly seen driving at speed and erratically through Mudgeeraba and surrounding suburbs, before allegedly crashing into a another vehicle driven by a 43-year-old Mudgeeraba man on Mudgeeraba Road around 3.35pm.
Following the collision, the 43-year-old man exited his vehicle and police will further allege the 18-year-old reversed the stolen vehicle before allegedly driving it into the man at speed, collecting him on the bonnet.
Police will further allege the stolen vehicle was then allegedly driven at high speeds along Mudgeeraba Road into Hinkler Drive with the victim atop the bonnet, before he was able to negotiate his release, with the driver of the stolen vehicle allegedly fleeing the scene.
The victim sustained minor injuries only.
Just before 5pm police tracked the stolen vehicle allegedly travelling northbound on the wrong side of Hinkler Drive, allegedly evading police.
Information from the public placed the vehicle allegedly driving west along Alexander Drive, Nerang a short time later.
Following extensive patrols of the area, police located the stolen vehicle in Regal Court, Highland Park around 6.15pm.
Noticing the alleged suspicious activity of a nearby black 2008 BMW X5 wagon allegedly driven by a 37-year-old Highland Park woman, police searched the vehicle and allegedly found the 18-year-old man secreted within the boot space under blankets.
Police will allege the pair are known to each other.
The woman was issued with a traffic infringement notice for having an unrestrained passenger in the vehicle attracting a $1078 fine and loss of four demerit points. She also had her licence suspended for failing to provide saliva analysis for a drug test.
The 18-year-old man was arrested without incident and charged with one count each of enter premises and commit indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and driving without a licence.
He was denied police bail and will appear in Southport Magistrates Court today, Tuesday August 16.
A second stolen vehicle, a black 2017 Renault Koleos was also observed driving erratically alongside the CRV and was located abandoned in the vicinity of Old Coach Road and Marriott Way, Highland park around 5.15pm.
Investigations into the identity of the driver are ongoing and police urge witnesses, especially those with relevant dashcam vision to come forward. The vehicle was originally stolen from a Scarborough Street, Southport residence on Saturday August 13.
At no stage was a police pursuit undertaken, tyre deflation devices were authorised however not deployed.
