Burketown flooding update

Major flooding is still occurring in Gregory River and flood water heights in Burketown are still subject to change.

37 houses and 2 water pumping stations have been taken off power due to safety concerns.

Burketown sewage and water treatment has been cut at this time.

Water reserves and food supplies are good, and resupply continues.

Residents are instructed to conserve water usage and monitor advice from Burketown Shire Council.

Air assets are stationed nearby and are on standby for emergency rescues or personnel transport.

Mount Isa District Disaster Coordination Centre has commenced the preparation of the recovery phase.

Due to the current conditions, it is still unsafe for people to return to their homes. All displaced persons have been accommodated and are currently being support by Queensland Community Recovery Services.

Mount Isa DDCC advise all residences still in Burketown to engage with the local police and council organisations if their situation changes, they feel unsafe or have any concerns.
