The Hamilton Christmas Busking Competition has kicked off, with some of the region’s talented musicians adding an exciting new element to the CBD this month.
The competition, organised by Southern Grampians Shire Council, has 10 performers so far scheduled to play at different times in the CBD over the next few weeks and the public can vote for their favourite act.
Buskers include:
• Matt Elmes: A solo act featuring guitar and vocals, delivering a soulful performance.
• Bonnie Jackson: An eclectic mix of indie rock, rock, pop, Christmas songs, and jazz.
• Aida: An 11-year-old solo violaist spreading Christmas cheer with delightful Christmas carols.
• Rise Above, Phoenix: A dynamic duo playing acoustic guitars, harmonica, and percussion, delivering positive, groovy folkie and jazzy bluesy vibes through originals and covers.
• Em: A singer and guitarist performing acoustic covers spanning from the 60s to today, exploring pop, rock, and blues genres.
• The Evergreens Jazz Band: Comprising six local musicians, the band specialises in traditional Dixieland jazz, featuring jazz standards from the 20s and 30s, as well as well-known Gospel tunes.
• Charlotte Dahl: A solo act presenting acoustic covers with a focus on folk and country, while also embracing a variety of genres.
• Dancing With Daffy: A unique performance featuring electronic drums playing rocking Christmas tunes and rock & roll covers.
• Hannah: Offering alternative indie music and alternative pop, promising a refreshing and innovative sound.
• The Double A’s: A classical touch to the competition, with a violin and viola duo delivering captivating performances.
Mayor Southern Grampians Shire Council David Robertson said the busking competition was designed to not only add some joy to the CBD this festive season, but to encourage people to stay longer in town.
“This Christmas, we want shoppers to discover the full scope of retail offerings in our CBD, break for coffee or a meal and take in the unique talent of our local buskers,” said Cr Robertson.
He encouraged the public to vote for their favourite busker by scanning the code on promotional posters around town, which could also be found on council’s social media and website.
“The Hamilton Busking Competition is not just an event; it’s a celebration of the rich cultural tapestry of our regional town. Let the music fill the streets and may the best busker win!”
