Finding our way to water bubblers around our region just got easier, with the launch of a new map showing the public places you can refill your water bottle and stay hydrated!
Waste and Recycling Councillor Shane Latcham said the Plastic Free CQ Program, run by the Boomerang Alliance, is one initiative that Rockhampton Regional Waste and Recycling has been proud to support.
“This Water Map pinpoints public water refill stations and is another great example of the work that Plastic Free CQ is doing to discourage the use of single-use plastics in our community,” Cr Latcham said.
“Plastic Free CQ kicked off locally to support the Queensland Government single-use plastic items ban in 2021 and has been working closely with 79 local businesses (and counting) to transition to plastic free alternatives.
“Avoiding single-use items, like plastic water bottles is one of the simplest ways you can help our community on the path towards zero waste.”
Water and Environmental Sustainability Councillor Donna Kirkland said there are plenty of ways we can all ‘choose to refuse’ single-use plastics.
“The single-use plastic items ban is making a huge difference as part of Queensland’s plan to tackle plastic pollution and we can all get involved.
“Bringing your own is a great way to avoid single use items so why not put together a little BYO kit including a reusable water bottle, cutlery, bags, and containers, and take it with you when you are out and about.”
“It’s great to know that if you need to refill your reusable water bottle, it is now as easy as checking the Water Map.”
