The next Café Culture Series Show to play at Lakes Entrance at the end of the month will be Melbourne four-piece band ‘Canyon’, whose show marks the 50th anniversary of Woodstock.
Canyon’s show will feature tastefully-arranged acoustic versions of many of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s greatest songs, including some of those first heard at Woodstock.
Supported by East Gippsland Shire Council, the concert also features many other great songs from the ‘Laurel Canyon, Westcoast’ tradition of the 60s and 70s such as America, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, The Band, Little Feat, and Joni Mitchell.
“As a harmony group, we know that vocal arrangements are a time-consuming labour of love and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young set the blueprint,” Canyon’s Peter Chapman said.
“Their songs have stood the test of time and their influence is omni-present.
“Canyon looks forward to celebrating their milestone Woodstock anniversary and paying our respects to a band that were politically fierce and musically even better.”
East Gippsland Shire Council’s Arts and Culture Coordinator Andrea Court said Canyon perform a lot of their harmony singing repertoire standing around one single condenser microphone.
“This is one of my favourite ways to hear live harmony singing. The voices tend to blend better as the singers can hear each other and adjust their own voices accordingly to achieve a closer, acoustic sound rather than that process being taken care of by a technician,” Ms Court said.
Canyon invites you to embrace your inner hippie and dress in your most colourful and peace-loving, flower power outfit.
There will be a prize for the best dressed. If you are interested to hear some of the greatest songs ever written, along with Canyon’s originals performed in splendid four-part harmonies you can secure your seat for their performance at Bellevue on the Lakes, 201 Esplanade, Lakes Entrance on Friday, August 23 at 7pm. Doors open at 6pm.
As a special treat local support act, Wawazat, will also play from 6.30pm.
Wawazat enjoy playing a wide range of music, from Willie Nelson in his Tex-Mex era, Pearl Jam, Ruby Hunter, Glenn Miller Band, Jill Barber in her jazz persona and a little country ACDC!
