Cairns-based steel fabricator CSF Industries will showcase its innovative manufacturing techniques during the Palaszczuk Government’s week-long Inside Advanced Manufacturing initiative tomorrow.
Touring the factory today, Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said CSF Industries is one of 20 manufacturers opening their doors to business peers in order to share their industry-leading techniques and support other manufacturers across the state.
“This week, Inside Advanced Manufacturing shines a light on Queensland manufacturers of the future and I am absolutely delighted to be here today at CSF Industries,” Minister Dick said.
“Our manufacturing sector is the sixth largest employer in the state and adds significantly to the state’s economy, contributing over $20 billion (in gross value added) per year.
“I’m also pleased with the latest data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on 28 March this year, which showed Queensland’s manufacturing industry employment increasing by 5.3 per cent (around 8,700 people) over the year to March Quarter 2019.
“Around 30 per cent of this is delivered through innovative regional manufacturers like CFS, demonstrating just how critical this industry is to creating the regional jobs of the future.
“CSF Industries, a leading supplier of steel fabrication to major clients across Australia and South East Asia, holds a unique position in the construction and fabrication industry in Northern Australia as the only single-source engineering, fabrication, coating, roofing and installation company in regional Queensland.
“The company already employs more than 200 people in Cairns and Townsville and will be showcasing its world-leading robotic technologies at its Cairns facility on Wednesday 22 May 2019,” Minister Dick said.
Mr Sean Adams, CEO, CSF Industries said he was proud to participate in Inside Advanced Manufacturing.
“This is a great way for us to meet other manufacturers in the region, network, share ideas and experiences.
“CSF has been able to take its business practices to a new level of precision and efficiency, with an investment of around $710,000 through Round 1 of the Queensland Government’s Made in Queensland program.
“Our integrated Robotic Steel Fabrication and Advanced Welding System is capable of 100 per cent accuracy and can prepare steel fit for purpose, with increased efficiency, eliminating rework and reducing material waste.
“Twelve months on, the project has created nine new jobs within the first three months of operation,” Mr Adams said.
Minister Dick said the Queensland Government is proud to support our manufacturing industries and share their success stories.
“Manufacturers in Queensland are world leaders known for their innovative, quality, safe, niche products,” he said.
“If you are a manufacturer, I strongly encourage you to attend one of these insightful experiences, which form part of the government’s Advanced Manufacturing 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan,” he said.
Cairns-based FNQ Plastics, a specialist custom-designed perspex and plastic fabrication business have also opened their doors to local manufacturers this week.
More than 400 people are expected to participate in the event across the week.
