Artists now have a chance at creating the graphic designs for this year’s NAIDOC Week celebrations in Orange.
It’s a chance for talented artists of all ages to have their work recognised as part of the annual celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and achievements.
Orange NAIDOC Week Community Committee Chair, Deputy Mayor Gerald Power said that the competition is a great way to be more inclusive and to acknowledge the artists’ talent.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for artists in our community to express themselves and display their ability during NAIDOC Week, which is an important event for our community,” Cr Gerald Power said.
The NAIDOC Committee will choose the winning artwork, which will become the official design theme for Orange NAIDOC Week in 2023. The artwork will be used on 2023 Orange NAIDOC Polo shirts, at the Orange Regional Museum Exhibition, and on all NAIDOC resources. The winner will also receive a ticket for themselves and a guest to the NAIDOC awards night, as well as a shop Orange gift card.
NAIDOC Week 2022
”This is a wonderful opportunity for local artists to showcase their talent while supporting the event, and who knows maybe get a boost for their artistic career,” Cr Powesaid.
“Their creativity and skill will help us promote and support the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and achievements in our community.”
For the artwork to be eligible, it must follow this year’s ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ NAIDOC theme: FOR OUR ELDERS.
The artwork can be created by drawing, painting, or digital design and should be no larger than A3 in size.
Once the winning design is chosen, the Orange City Council design team will digitalize it, and some changes may be necessary for printing. Certain aspects of your design may also be used separately.
The contest is open to artists of all ages. Artists can complete the attached form and submit their entry at the Community Services Centre, Giyalang Ganya, located at 286 Lords Place.
The competition will end on April 30th, 2023.
