Call for information – Domestic violence – Remote Roper Gulf community

Northern Territory Police are calling for information in relation to a domestic violence incident that occurred in a remote Roper Gulf community overnight.

At around 11.40pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received reports of an alleged aggravated assault involving persons believed to be known to one another.

Mataranka police members attended and identified two victims, a man and a woman, with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The alleged offender, who had already been conveyed from the scene for medical assessment prior to police arrival, also suffered serious injuries.

A crime scene was declared, and the Katherine Criminal Investigation branch has taken carriage of the investigation.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Ordelman said, “The crime scene is currently being examined by forensics.

“Detectives are making enquiries into the incident and the investigations are in the preliminary stage. Three people have had to seek medical treatment.”
