In the early hours of this morning, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre was alerted by Tennant Creek members about a concerning incident involving a marked police vehicle.
Just after midnight, Tennant Creek members reported that a marked police vehicle at the front of the Tennant Creek Police Station was deliberately rammed by a stolen motor vehicle, occupied by several youths, causing panel damage on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
Following the ramming incident, the vehicle was seen in the town centre, engaging in dangerous manoeuvres such as burnouts and driving on the wrong side of the road.
Members successfully deployed tyre deflation devices, and two youths fled from the vehicle into surrounding scrubland.
Despite extensive patrols in the surrounding areas, the individuals who fled from the vehicle could not be located at that time.
The vehicle involved in the incident has been seized for forensic examination and investigations to identify the individuals involved is ongoing.
Acting Senior Sergeant Cameron Bellis said, “Such reckless and dangerous behaviour will not be tolerated. Northern Territory Police will pursue all available avenues to identify and apprehend those responsible for this incident.”
