Eligible organisations can now express their interest in establishing Safe at ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ programs to keep victim-survivors safe from family and domestic violence in Kalgoorlie, Port Hedland and Kununurra.
Safe at ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ is designed to undertake risk assessments, safety planning, security upgrades and provide in-home support for people experiencing family and domestic violence so that they can safely stay in their own homes or a home of their choice, where it is safe to do so.
Importantly, Safe at ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ helps families maintain safe and sustainable housing following family and domestic violence, ensuring continuity of access to their usual support networks such as workplaces, schools and early learning centres.
The Safe at ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ program began in 2010 and now operates in eight locations in the Perth metropolitan area, Wheatbelt and the South West.
During the 16 Days in WA campaign in November last year, the Cook Government announced that the Safe at ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ program would be expanded with $3.1 million funding over two years.
The initiative forms part of a $72.6 million funding package to strengthen responses to family and domestic violence in WA, which was informed by the work of the Family and Domestic Violence Taskforce.

As stated by Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence Minister Sabine Winton:
“Family and domestic violence has a devastating impact on families, homes and communities.
“It is vital that victim-survivors who experience violence have the option to stay safe in their homes, where it is safe to do so.
“We know some people really do not want to live in a women’s refuge, and sleep in a strange bed in unfamiliar surroundings.
“The expansion of the Safe at ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ program to Kununurra, Hedland and Kalgoorlie will enable victim-survivors to exercise choices about where they live and remain connected to their support networks.
“I encourage eligible organisations to express their interest in delivering this important program that makes a genuine difference in the lives of victim-survivors.”
As stated by Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna:
“Safe at ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ will provide victim-survivors in the Kimberley with the option of remaining safely in their own homes, rather than going to a refuge or crisis accommodation.
“The service will help complement the fantastic work already being done by organisations like Gawooleng.
“Initiatives like Safe at ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ are key to ensuring victim-survivors can maintain their economic security and connection with their community.”
As stated by the Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:
“Victim-survivors should not be the ones having to uproot their lives when they have done nothing wrong.
“I am proud to be part of a State Government that is committed to supporting victim-survivors through initiatives such as Safe at ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ in the Goldfields.”
