Northern Territory Police continue to appeal to members of the public for information to help identify a man who seriously assaulted a woman in Tennant Creek yesterday.
Around 4:30am Tennant Creek Police arrived on scene to find a 25-year-old woman with a serious but non-life threatening head injury sustained during an alleged assault by an unknown man.
It is alleged a man gained entry into a home on Caroline Street and went to assault a female occupant who was asleep at the time, when she woke up and alerted another female occupant in the house.
The second female came to her assistance and fought off the man. During the struggle she was struck by an edged weapon and sustained a serious cut to the head.
The man, who is described as being of Aboriginal appearance with a slim build and aged in his late teens to early 20s, fled the area and is believed to have last been seen running west on Caroline and Ambrose Streets.
Police cordoned off the area with forensic officers flown to Tennant Creek yesterday from Alice Springs to complete an examination of the crime scene.
Investigators from Tennant Creek are still calling for information from any person who may have seen a man matching this description in the area of Caroline and Ambrose Streets around the time period of 4:30-5am, or who may have information that could assist with this investigation to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or police on 131 444.
