Byron Shire Council is calling for expressions of interest from artists to explore the theme of ‘Rising – the growing urgency and consciousness to meet climate challenges.’

“We are excited to announce ‘Rising’ as the next theme of Climate Conversations, which is a biennial initiative that invites Northern Rivers artists to collaborate with community and explore ways we can adapt, reorganise, and evolve in the face of climate change through the arts,” Byron Bay’s Lone Goat Gallerist, Sarah Harvey said.

“Amidst soaring temperatures, swelling oceans, and escalating natural disasters, Earth’s fragile equilibrium hangs in the balance. This year’s theme of Rising reflects the need to embrace our role as environmental stewards and unite in collective action,” Ms Harvey said.

Artists are asked to submit innovative ideas for projects that will engage the community and can be presented around this theme at the Lone Goat Gallery in 2025. The successful artist or artists will receive an artist’s fee of $5,000 to develop new work, additional funds up to $2,000 for delivery of public programs, and a one-month exhibition at Lone Goat Gallery, Byron Bay, in 2025.

Climate Conversations is an initiative of Lone Goat Gallery and Byron Shire Council, inviting artists to explore climate related projects. Artists are encouraged to consider ways their project can engage with the community through creative collaborations, and participatory activities to generate important conversations in community.

“Artists who propose a collaborative community focused project will be highly considered. Our aim is to support artists to open up new ways of thinking and talking about climate change through art,” Ms Harvey said.’

The EOI is open to all Northern Rivers’ artists, art producers and artist teams and we encourage anyone interested in this opportunity to apply via or at .
