Cambridge Road Kilsyth Master Plan Adopted

Yarra Ranges Shire Council

Council has adopted its Master Plan for 150 Cambridge Road, mapping out the next 10-15 years of developing the beloved community space.

In 2022, Council purchased the land in Kilsyth, following a community campaign to have the land kept as public open space.

Following the purchase, Council committed to creating a Master Plan for the site, to map out improvements to the space, subject to future funding.

Yarra Ranges Mayor, Cr Sophie Todorov, said the adoption of the plan would help Council advocate for funding and improvements to the park.

“We’re so pleased that 150 Cambridge Road is now in public ownership, and will forever stay a park for the community to enjoy,” she said.

“Having a Master Plan is crucial for us thinking long-term about what the community needs from the space, and how we can plan to bring it about over 15 years.

“I’d like to thank all the community members who shared their thoughts and feedback, helping us to shape and refine this document.

“We’ll be using the adopted Master Plan to apply for funding for various projects, and I’m looking forward to seeing the new chapter of 150 Cambridge Road take shape.”

Following community feedback, the following priorities were identified for the site:

  • Meandering paths, through woodland and native grasses

  • A Manna gum feature tree, with a gathering and educational space

  • Maintaining views to the Dandenong Ranges

  • An ephemeral water feature/seasonal pond

  • Bike jump tracks

  • Nature play areas

  • Carpark with trees

  • A picnic shelter, tables and seats

  • A multi-purpose half-court

  • Public toilets, and

  • A quiet activity area

Early landscape works are expected to be completed in mid-2024, to remove trees in poor condition and weed species, plant new indigenous trees and shrubs, create a new circuit path and accessible parking bays, install picnic benches, mulch existing garden beds and install a rubbish bin for visitors.

Community members are invited to be part of creating this new community space, with a community planting day on 14 September.
