A new group targeting young, aspiring businesspeople is starting in Campaspe. Next Gen Connect aims to link likeminded people through social and learning events. The group will host its first get together on Wednesday, 6 December at 5.30pm at the Shamrock Hotel in Echuca.

Campaspe Shire Deputy Mayor, Cr Tony Marwood said after working with employers across the municipality, Council recognised a gap in the market and pursued the idea of forming a group to connect young people.

“The group isn’t just about connecting people who already live here, we’re encouraging those who have recently moved or are new to the region to come join the fun.

“Establishing a network of young, likeminded people where we can foster professional relationships and encourage growth is what Next Gen Connect is all about,” Cr Marwood said.

Like many regional areas, attracting staff is a challenge for multiple employers in the shire. Once they’ve secured staff, it’s then a case of retaining them, encouraging them to integrate into the local community and giving them a reason to stay.

“Young adults in the region shouldn’t be put off thinking it’s another young professionals group. Next Gen Connect is looking for any young person wanting to expand their connections. Whether you’re a lawyer, hospitality worker, farmer, tradie, administrative worker, student, the list goes on. We’re about providing an opportunity to create meaningful impacts and connections through the group,” Cr Marwood added.

An initial meeting was held with representatives from Campaspe Shire Council, Echuca Regional Health and HW Greenhams & Sons to discuss the group and its events.

Next Gen Connect aims to be fun and inclusive. The group plans to provide a mix of different events and rotate them around the region, showing off the wonderful activities and sights of Campaspe.

“If you’re an employer with an employee be sure to encourage them to get involved in the group to help them establish local connections. If you’re a young person who’s interested in meeting people, having fun and learning, come along and see what it’s all about.

“The planning group recognises that the Festive Season is right around the corner. With this in mind, the initial meeting to brainstorm ideas and what other people would like to see from the group has been set for early December,” Cr Marwood said.

Join Next Gen Connect on Wednesday, 6 December from 5.30pm at the Shamrock Hotel in Echuca. Light refreshments will be provided.
