The Rockliff Liberal Government has welcomed the announcement that a new S.H.E Cancer Wellness Centre will be located at the Theatre Royal Hotel on Campbell Street.
The announcement follows a Memorandum of Understanding executed last year between the Tasmanian Liberal Government, S.H.E, the University of Tasmania and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
Minister Barnett said a dedicated wellness centre to provide support and comfort to Tasmanians with cancer, and their families, will greatly complement the wonderful work that is already being done in cancer treatment and research in Tasmania.
“Today’s announcement by S.H.E and UTas of the proposed site for the wellness centre is a welcome first step and I congratulate S.H.E Chair Scott Harris and Professor Black, and look forward to the exciting journey ahead.
“Each week, thousands of Tasmanians receive high quality care and treatment for cancer, and as a Government, we are committed to supporting Tasmanians to access the best possible treatment and care, closer to where they live so that they are surrounded by their families and loved ones.”
The Rockliff Liberal Government is 100 per cent behind the establishment of a Cancer Wellness Centre and looks forward to receiving the centre’s business case, currently in development, to determine what level of support can be provided.
