Candlelight Vigil Will Shine Light On Domestic Violence

The City of Logan will mark Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month with a candlelight vigil.
The community is invited to take part in the May 1 candlelight vigil in the City of Logan to mark Queensland’s Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.

The City of Logan will pause on Wednesday (May 1) to remember those impacted by domestic and family violence.

A candlelight vigil will be held on the forecourt of the Logan Entertainment Centre in Logan Central from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

The vigil marks the beginning of Queensland’s Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month (DFVPM) and is an opportunity for the community to come together and say no to domestic and family violence.

Council’s Administration Building in Logan Central and three water towers at Underwood, Shailer Park and Hillcrest will be illuminated purple throughout May to mark DFVPM.

City of Logan Mayor Jon Raven has invited the community to take part in the candlelight vigil.

“We saw how many people took part in rallies around Australia over the weekend calling for change,” Cr Raven said.

“Data shows one in four women over the age of 15 have experienced violence from an intimate partner.

“Here in Logan, we want to make it clear that we stand firmly against domestic and family violence in all its forms.

“This vigil is about us all coming together in support of those who currently experience it or have experienced it in the past.

“On Wednesday we want to also remember those who have tragically lost their lives, as well as their loved ones left behind.

“Council is committed to educating the community and will continue working with key partners to spread the message that domestic and family violence will not be tolerated.”
