Carbon Neutral Adelaide Awards

Carbon neutral awards highlighting city’s green economy.

The City of Adelaide congratulates its Carbon Neutral Adelaide Award winners who are key players in the city’s transition to a low carbon, liveable city.

Adelaide Town Hall hosted the awards ceremony last night, with a crowd of more than 100 people celebrating the winners across 6 categories.

The Christie Walk residential community was crowned as the Carbon Neutral Adelaide Ambassador for 2021. Christie Walk in Adelaide’s South-West is home to 40 residents in 27 low impact apartments and townhouses which provide affordable, environmentally conscious living.

The group is an extraordinary example of community cohesion, with 91 percent of their energy needs generated on site utilising solar, smart energy, natural heating and cooling as well as large-scale rainwater collection. Since 2017, the community has cut carbon emissions to around one tonne per resident, compared to the Australian average of 17 tonnes.

The Carbon Neutral Adelaide Awards recognise organisations who are leading the way on the different pathways to reduce the city’s carbon emissions. Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor congratulated the recipients on being leaders in the community.

“We celebrate and appreciate these innovators who are developing products, services or businesses that support a carbon neutral Adelaide,” said the Lord Mayor.

“Adelaide has a reputation as a clean and green city which prioritises a low carbon economy, all the winners and nominees are helping position Adelaide as one of the world’s most liveable cities.

“They are helping community and business transition to environmentally friendly products and services which also creates strong economic benefits for our city and state.”
