Seventy career practitioners will assist students across the State with their career choices.
Education Minister Dr Tony Buti said career practitioners play an integral role in schools with helping students to make informed decisions about their future pathways and career opportunities.
Opening a two-day professional forum, Dr Buti congratulated the career practitioners for graduating and achieving their Graduate Certificate in Career Development.
The career practitioner initiative was announced in 2021 as part of a McGowan Government initiative to building a strong career development culture across schools.
The career practitioners support students through their secondary schooling and provide opportunities for students to experience a range of work and study options.
The practitioners started in 2022, and as part of the $31.7 million initiative they have completed a 12-month course and a nationally recognised qualification in career development.
The professional development forum will showcase guest presentations and resources from the Career Learning Toolkit which provides career opportunities for secondary school students.
As stated by Education Minister Dr Tony Buti:
“The world of work is changing with new and exciting pathways and opportunities for students to explore and experience.
“The career practitioner initiative was a key McGowan Government commitment to help ensure our students make the right decision on their career choices.
“To equip these career practitioners with the knowledge and skills to undertake this important role our Government committed to funding the Graduate Certificate in Career Development.
“Today, I congratulate this team on their hard work and achievement over the last 12 months.
“I wish them well and look forward to seeing how the career practitioners continue to engage with industry, provide work experience opportunities and prepare our young people for the future.”
