Nillumbik Carers Hub at Living & Learning Nillumbik and healthAbility are partnering to celebrate ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Carers Week, with our first Carers Wellbeing Day on Tuesday 17 October.
Carers provide essential support and assistance to those who are vulnerable or in need, and help to foster a compassionate and interconnected community. However, in 2022, carers were more than twice as likely to experience lower wellbeing than the average Australian.
To show our gratitude, all carers in Nillumbik, whether paid or unpaid, are invited to come along for a day of appreciation, connection and relaxation.
Nillumbik Mayor, Councillor Ben Ramcharan said that in Nillumbik 15.8 per cent of the population identified as having a carer role in the most recent census.
Cr Ramcharan said carers ensure the well-being and quality of life of many in our community, especially those who are vulnerable, or living with disability.
“Without connection, respite and support, care-giving can often lead to stress and isolation. The aim of our Carers Hub at Nillumbik Living & Learning is to provide some of that connection and support. This Wellbeing Day is an acknowledgement of the essential work of our carers,” Cr Ramcharan said.
All activities are free and carers may come for the whole day, or just pop in for lunch or a coffee.
Here is what’s on offer:
- Slow Flow Yoga (9:30am – 10:15am)
- Tai Chi (11am – 12noon)
- Relaxation Seated Massage (from 11am – 2pm)
- Lunch & Coffee (from 12noon – 1:30pm)
- Kokedama Making (1pm – 2pm)
Each carer participant will receive a heartfelt Wellbeing Day Gift.
Registration for each session is required.
