The federal Department of the Environment and Energy sought CSIRO and Geoscience Australia’s scientific advice regarding undertakings made by Carmichael project proponent, Adani, in relation to its two groundwater-related management plans for the project.
This followed scientific advice provided by CSIRO and Geoscience Australia on the issue to the department in late February.
CSIRO is of the view that Adani’s responses should satisfy the recommendations to update the groundwater models, and to address the modelling-related issues and concerns raised in the CSIRO-GA advice.
CSIRO has noted that there are still components of the advice provided to the department that will need to be addressed through the approval of the research plan, which includes confirming the source aquifer of the Doongmabulla Springs.
