Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) will no longer be accepting cash at any of Council’s Waste Facilities, and the Revivia Tip Shop will be temporarily closed due to updated health restrictions.
TRC Chief Executive Officer Brian Pidgeon said that from Monday 30 March 2020, all waste management facilities will be cashless, including the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility.
“The decision is based on advice provided by the government and community expectations that promotes greater levels of hygiene and social distancing in the interests of public health and safety,” Mr Pidgeon said.
“During this unprecedented Coronavirus (COVID-19) health event, we must abide by the advice given to us by the State and Federal Governments.
“The decision will mean that these facilities will now only accept EFTPOS, Credit Card, Debit Card and account payments.
“Transactions will not incur any processing fees, and there is no minimum payment amount for customers using electronic payment.
“The Reviva Re-Use shop at the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility will also close until further notice. Council is not removing the service; only temporarily closing the facility.
“During this time, Kerbside collection services will continue unchanged, including the Assisted Wheelie Bin Service (Infirm Service).
“We understand that often the Infirm Service is a chance for social interaction; however, we ask that during this period, customers maintain a distance from drivers and avoid unnecessary contact with them.
Council will continue to monitor any further directions and advice from the Federal and State Governments and will respond accordingly.
“Council apologises for any inconvenience this change may cause.
“The current situation requires swift but measured action, and we’re doing our best to respond as quickly as possible to Commonwealth Government directions and Queensland Health advice, partnered with our own risk assessment which prioritises the health and wellbeing of the community and our employees.”
