Mount Gambier Library is pleased host a children’s book launch with local budding artist Olive Cotton, Illustrator of ‘The Cat Surprise’ on Thursday 11 January at 10:30am, as part of the City of Mount Gambier’s school holiday program of events.
The Cat Surprise is written by children’s author and counsellor Joan Koskela, and is illustrated by her granddaughter, 11 year old Olive Cotton.
“One day, Grandma was telling me and the other grandchildren the true story of Gingie the Cat and we loved it so much that we all thought that it would be a great story to share with others,” explained Olive.
Eight year old Billie desperately wanted her very own cat. She hoped and imagined every day until one day, little Gingie came along.
Olive, who loves being creative, especially drawing and painting, began drawing furiously. Working closely with her Grandma, The Cat Surprise came to life over a five week project, and as a result, Olive will be launching the book as part of the Mount Gambier Library’s school holiday program of events.
When the book was first published, I couldn’t wait to go to the Library and hand over a copy so that other children can borrow, read and enjoy. – Olive Cotton
The launch will consist of a book reading and Q&A session from the audience, followed by a beautiful craft activity. Books will be available for sale $30.00 with Olive happy to sign copies.
“I hope to do some more illustrating if the opportunity arises. For now, I am selling my hand painted cards and keyrings at local businesses in Mount Gambier,” said Olive.
