A new funding opportunity will empower Cornell faculty to streamline the proposal process and secure major research support, the Cornell Center for Social Sciences (CCSS) announced today. PI-eligible faculty are encouraged to apply for the Grant Preparation Funds by March 1 for the initial cycle. Proposals will be reviewed on a quarterly basis thereafter with deadlines for submission on June 1, Sept. 1 and Dec. 1.
In collaboration with Cornell Research & Innovation, CCSS will support faculty as they prepare major external funding proposals, with a focus on center grants, training grants or other large collaborative research grants with budgets of at least $1 million and often $5 million or more. Eligible funding sources include industry collaborations, government grants and grants from foundations and nonprofit organizations.
“At CCSS we are committed to supporting Cornell faculty as they conduct research to solve the world’s most pressing social challenges,” said Peter Enns, the Robert S. Harrison director of CCSS and professor of government and public policy. “The Grant Preparation Funds are designed to ease the administrative aspects of grant preparation, allowing faculty to focus on the research components. We hope to see even more ambitious funding proposals and collaborations leading to even greater research impact.”
Research teams can request up to $115,000. Applicants are encouraged to propose flexible and creative arrangements that facilitate developing and submitting a major grant or funding proposal. Expenses may include hiring a project manager, administrative assistant or grant writer, and arranging visits with a funding agency or industry partner, among others.
Faculty interested in applying for the Grant Preparation Funds are encouraged to review the guidelines and submit their proposals on the CCSS website.
