CECV welcomes Jacinta Collins appointment

Catholic Education Commission of Victoria welcomes the appointment of former senator Jacinta Collins as Executive Director of the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Catholic Education Commission by the Bishops Commission for Catholic Education, Acting Executive Director Jim Miles says.

‘During her years as a senator for Victoria, Jacinta has been a stalwart defender of all schools, including the Catholic sector’, Mr Miles said.

‘She has served as a parliamentary secretary for school education and has a long-established interest in education policy and social justice issues, which make her perfectly equipped for the role.

‘As a Catholic school parent, Jacinta understands Catholic education’s unique mission to provide quality, accessible, faith and values-based schooling to as many students as possible.

‘Jacinta will be a strong voice for Catholic schools moving forward at a time of reform.

‘We still need to see the historic fair funding arrangements announced last year by Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his Education Minister, Dan Tehan, finalised and passed into law in a way that accurately reflects the recommendations of the independent ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ School Resourcing Board.

‘There is also the matter of the Board’s current inquiry into the efficacy of the loading for students with disability and the concerns Catholic education has expressed about its potential for abuse.

‘Jacinta will be a strong advocate for fairness, equity and parental choice on these matters and in all the debates to come.’
