Celebrating Tasmanian ingenuity this ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Science Week

Madeleine Ogilvie, Minister for Science and Technology

Kicking off tomorrow, ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Science Week opens up the unique opportunity to meet local scientists, hear from world-leading experts and celebrate Tasmania’s achievements in STEM.

Running until 20 August, Minister for Science and Technology, Madeleine Ogilvie, said Tasmanian ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Science Week offers up a myriad of events and workshops around the State.

“Watch out for the Young Tassie Scientists sharing their research across our island, enjoy a stargazing evening at Hive in Ulverstone, engage in some citizen science at QVMAG or join us for the finale at the Festival of Bright Ideas on the waterfront in Hobart,” she said.

The start of Science Week also sees applications officially open for the 2023 Tasmanian STEM Excellence Awards, with a total prize pool of $35,000.

“The awards recognise the achievements of Tasmania’s leading science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professionals and highlight the importance of innovation in growing Tasmania’s community and economy,” Minister Ogilvie said.

“We are proud to again partner with the University of Tasmania and Inspiring Australia to deliver the awards, with applications now open across six categories, so there is something for everyone to throw their hat in the ring for.

“I ask all Tasmanians in, or close to, the STEM sector to encourage the high achievers they know to put in their applications before Friday, 29 September 2023.”
