The Rockliff Liberal Government is committed to making our State a place where all people are empowered and supported to reach their full potential.
Today marks International Day of People with Disability.
Minister for Disability Services, Jo Palmer, said the day was founded by the United Nations and is acknowledged internationally.
“It’s a day where the world comes together to promote community awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability,” Minister Palmer said.
“IDPwD is an opportunity to be part of creating an inclusive and diverse community for the 4.4 million Australians with disability.
“Here in Tasmania we also see this day as an opportunity to celebrate the amazing achievements and contributions made by people with disability each and every day.”
The Rockliff Liberal Government will be introducing The Disability Inclusion and Safeguarding Act to Parliament in early 2024.
Tasmanians with disability and disability peak bodies have been feeding into the development of this legislation for the past year.
“Last night I was delighted to join with Blueline Laundry to mark the day along with the organisation’s 130th anniversary, and Employee Award Presentation,” Minister Palmer said.
“Blueline Laundry is an outstanding example of a business, which promotes a culture of equality, inclusion, and respect.
“Its staff include 30% adults with disability, 30% from a migrant background and 30% of people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“About 200 of the company’s employees attended the ceremony. It was so fantastic to see so many people recognised at last night’s awards.”
