The University of Adelaide’s Adelaide Business School (ABS) is the first organisation in Australia to be certified to ISO 44001, the international standard on collaborative business relationship management.

Dean of Business, Professor Noel Lindsay, said he was excited by the opportunities this certification would provide to enhance and extend the valuable industry engagement and partnerships of the University of Adelaide’s Business School.

“We are thrilled to be named as the first organisation in Australia and the first university in the world to achieve ISO 44001 certification,” said Professor Lindsay.

“Engagement is extremely important in ensuring the Adelaide Business School’s educational programs and research are what industry and the community want and to ensure the Adelaide Business School has real social, economic, and intellectual impact in these areas.

“It also helps the Business School to foster an engagement culture where engagement excellence is recognised as well as research and teaching excellence. The pursuit of quality is at the heart of the Adelaide Business School’s recent organisational renewal.”

The ABS’s strategic plan measures quality across five pillar areas:

  • Quality in its people and culture
  • Quality in its teaching and student experience
  • Quality in its research
  • Quality in its engagement with industry and the wider community, and
  • Quality in its management systems and processes.

ISO 44001 Certification builds upon the ISO 9001 Certification that the ABS achieved in 2021.

In the same way that ISO 9001 helps to measure continual improvement in the ABS’s Quality Management System, ISO 44001 helps to measure continual improvement in the school’s Collaborative Business Relationship Management System where it has established a framework and system for facilitating partnering, collaboration, and engagement with industry and the community.

The British Standards Institution (BSI) is a world-leading standards body that helps organisations operate in a way that is safer, more secure and more sustainable.

Chris Meehan, Chief Operating Officer, BSI, Australia and New Zealand, said: “Congratulations to the Adelaide Business School in becoming the first organisation in Australia to be certified to ISO 44001, the international standard on Collaborative Business Relationship management.

“Complying with ISO 44001 helps to create sustainable business relationships, and with enhanced collaboration between organisations provides a wide range of benefits, including increased innovation, better cost management and improved risk mitigation.”
