CFA members are continuing to support VICSES and fellow emergency service colleagues with the flood crisis likely to impact communities for days and weeks to come.
Communities around the areas of Shepparton, Echuca, Wangaratta, Seymour, Bendigo, Charlton, and Skipton have been heavily impacted, with CFA volunteers and staff assisting the inter-agency effort.
CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan thanked members for their commitment over what has been a challenging few days for Victoria.
“Hundreds of CFA people have been working tirelessly alongside our SES colleagues and other emergency services, as well as our Defence Force personnel and members of the community,” CO Heffernan said.
“They’re on the ground filling sandbags and rescuing people, but they’re also working behind the scenes and helping manage response activities in Incident Control Centres across the state.
“Like other emergency service personnel in these communities, some of our own members have had their own homes or properties impacted by floodwaters, but they are still out there doing everything they can to help others.”
CO Heffernan reminded all Victorians to ensure they have the VicEmergency app downloaded to get the most up to date information.
“Emergency Warnings and Evacuation Warnings have been issued over the last few days, many of which are still in place,” he said.
“Stay informed, monitor weather warnings and forecasts at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and avoid flood effected areas if possible.
“Keep yourself and your loved ones safe by following the warnings and advice from emergency services.
“Thank you to all our CFA members and emergency service partners for your ongoing dedication to the flood crisis.”
