On 17 November 2019 Balmoral Fire Station hosted a successful Women’s Day where a group of women found out about CFA and our trucks and equipment.
The day started with introductions and a discussion over morning tea. This included an acknowledgement of the experience of the CFA female members present. Community Liaison Representative Jo Vigliaturo shared her personal experience of the St Patrick’s Day fire on her farm, giving attendees the opportunity to inspect her well stocked ‘go tub’ for emergencies. Jo also provided information about Bushfire Planning Workshops that are available to everyone.
A thermal imaging camera and equipment on the trucks were demonstrated, and the women inspected an ultralight vehicle. This gave the participants hands-on experience and the opportunity to ask questions.
Run by District 5 BASO Kassandra Caldwell and Melville Forest Fire Brigade 3rd Lieutenant Jo Tully, women interested in becoming CFA members were signed up as new members by BASO Wes Hill with support from Group Officer Rodney MacFarlane.
A delicious lunch was provided by Balmoral brigade members, followed by more discussions during the afternoon.
Feedback from the day was positive with a focus on the need for future training days for women.
