Not content with just growing a moustache for the month of Movember, Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) employees led a group of eight men who have undertaken a 45km walk to raise money for the worthy cause.
Speaking after the long trek, TRC Principal Project Manager Craig Sleeman, paid credit to all the members who participated, including Daniel York who organised the event.
“We started at Jubilee Park and walked out to Pittsworth which took around nine hours to complete. It was a long, hot slog but it was worth it,” he said.
“There were a few blisters and sore feet amongst the group, but we all knew it was for a good cause. It was for all the dads, brothers, sons and mates in our lives.
“A big thank you to Daniel York for organising the walk, to all the fellow walkers in Team Walking Whiskers, all the men at Council who’ve been growing mo’s and those who’ve helped us fundraise across the month.
“It’s a wonderful initiative and one I’m really proud to have been involved.”
TRC Mayor Paul Antonio congratulated the group on the achievement and thanked everyone who supported them on their journey.
“It’s great to see so many Council employees taking part in this wonderful initiative and the great charity that is Movember. I’m proud our staff are contributing to helping men live happier, healthier and longer lives,” Mayor Antonio said.
“Last year $35.5 million was raised for Movember. This money is invested in critical areas such as mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
“It’s so important we continue to have the conversations around the often-ignored issue of men’s health.”
