Charges laid following attempted arson and stabbing – South Wentworthville

Two people will appear in court today charged following an alleged attempted arson and stabbing in Sydney’s west overnight.

About 10.40pm (Sunday 5 November 2023), emergency services were called to a home on Mackenzie Street, Concord West, following reports of a vehicle fire.

Fire & Rescue NSW attended and located a Nissan X-trail alight in the driveway of the home. The blaze was extinguished; however, the Nissan was partially destroyed.

Officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command established a crime scene.

Just after midnight (Monday 6 November 2023), police attended Rawson Street, South Wentworthville, after reports a man had been injured during a fight.

Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command found two vehicles had collided and a 43-year-old man armed with a knife.

An 18-year-old man was found suffering lacerations to his hands and face, while a 17-year-old boy was uninjured.

The injured man was treated and taken to Westmead Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The 43-year-old man suffered superficial lacerations to his shoulder and leg after reportedly being struck with a machete. He was arrested along with the 17-year-old boy, and both were taken to Granville Police Station.

Police will allege in court that two people attended a home on Northcott Road, Lalor Park and allegedly attempted to set it alight. The homeowner saw a Toyota Prado drive off and gave chase, following the vehicle to Rawson Road where he has allegedly been involved in an altercation with the two occupants.

Crime scenes were established, and detectives have commenced an investigation into the incidents, which are believed to be linked.

The man was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The teen was charged with attempt to damage property by fire/explosive with intent injure, and reckless wounding.

Both have been refused bail with the man to appear at Parramatta Local Court and the teen to appear at a children’s court today (Monday 6 November 2023).
