Charleville Industrial Precinct secures $1 million boost to expand

Stage 2 of Charleville’s Industrial Precinct has been given the green light, paving the way for more local jobs thanks to funding through Round 4 of the Palaszczuk Government’s successful $295 million Building our Regions (BoR) program.

The $1 million-plus funding package features $800,000 from BoR and $209,693 from Murweh Shire Council.

Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said the project will add 13 industrial blocks to the precinct, with new bitumen roads, electricity, water, drainage and sewerage all part of the expansion.

“These new blocks will increase capacity within the precinct to 21 sites, with Stage 2 works expected to create more than 20 new jobs during development,” Mr Dick said.

“It will also facilitate long-term job growth in the region through greater business attraction.

“Once complete, the industrial precinct will be a great driver for the local economy, supporting larger sectors like mining and meat processing as well as emerging industries such as waste processing.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to regional Queensland, developing the community infrastructure towns like Charleville need to sustain jobs and economic growth.”

Murweh Shire Council Mayor Annie Liston said the funding will stimulate economic growth in the region by providing extra capacity for existing and new export markets.

“Our council is currently working with industry and businesses wanting new industrial sites close to rail, road and air services,” Ms Liston said.

“The Building our Regions funding from the Queensland Government will ensure that we can service new industries in Charleville, creating jobs and providing sustained economic growth.”

Round 4 of Building our Regions will see the Palaszczuk Government partner with 37 councils on 49 projects – work which will create an estimated 657 jobs.

Under previous rounds, the program has allocated $225 million to 174 critical infrastructure projects across the state, generating 1762 jobs and attracting additional investment of $353.5 million from councils and other organisations.

Through the first three rounds of BoR, Murweh Shire Council has received more than $3.9 million for seven projects, supporting 15 local jobs.
