Over the next week every enrolled elector in the Rockhampton Region and Livingstone Shire will receive a letter from the Electoral Commission Queensland (ECQ) asking you to vote on whether you support the Northern Suburbs coming home.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said this is our chance to vote for the transfer of Glenlee, Glendale and Rockyview from Livingstone Shire to the Rockhampton Region.
“This decision will help shape our community for decades to come,” Mayor Williams said.
“Residents in the Northern Suburbs have asked time and time again to come home to the Rockhampton Region, and time and time again they have been ignored.
“It is our chance now to really listen to what the residents want and to make their wishes come true.
“I am urging the community to check your mailboxes this week for your letter from the ECQ and to vote ‘yes’.
“In your letter, you’ll find a unique code that you will need to cast your vote. Only you can use the code, and you can only use it once.
“You’ll be able to mail your vote in straight away or jump online to vote from Monday 20 June when online polling opens.
“This is your chance not just to add your voice to the chorus of Northern Suburbs residents asking to come home, it’s also your chance to vote ‘yes’ to the future of our whole community.
“We have a plan to invest in and grow these areas, to provide critical infrastructure and services, while still protecting the rural character of these three suburbs.
“Our plan means more people, more businesses, and more jobs. It means more money flowing into the local economy, here and at the beach.
“The future we want is a bigger and better Rockhampton region, with more schools, more healthcare options, more facilities, and more services for everyone.
“The results of this vote will help define the future of our entire region.
“When you receive your letter, vote ‘yes’ to a better future for all of us.”
