Child exploitation and weapons charges, Central Highlands

Detectives from Emerald Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have charged a 36-year-old Central Highlands man with multiple child exploitation and weapons offences.

Following information received from members of the public, on Monday, November 20, police executed a search warrant at a property in the Emerald area, where they allegedly located two firearms.

A 36-year-old man was taken into police custody nearby the property.

It will be further alleged the man was in possession of child exploitation material at the time of his arrest.

He has been charged with two counts each of unlawful possession of weapons (rifle and shotgun), indecent treatment of children and one count each of authority required to possess explosives (ammunition), possession of child exploitation material, using internet to procure children, grooming child under 16 years, and commit public nuisance.

He is due to appear at Emerald Magistrates Court on Tuesday, December 19.
