Childhood education reform good for families, young people and economy

Business Council of Australia

The NSW and Victorian governments’ agreement on early childhood education is a huge step towards to boosting workforce participation and giving our kids the best start, Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott said.

“We welcome this nationally significant reform being led by the states. Every premier and chief minister should be watching this nation leading model.

“Early childhood education delivers better outcomes for young people and better outcomes for the economy, so making this universal makes sense.

“This doesn’t just help make a fairer society, it’s also an economic imperative.

“Getting more women back to work could grow the economy by $5 billion and better outcomes for young people will put them in prime position in the fierce global battle for work ready employees.

“This is good for mums and dads, good for businesses and good for the economy.

“We look forward to working with all governments to improve the early childhood and education system so that women can get back to work, families have more flexibility and our economy is more productive.”
