Children practice safe cycling, South Australia

Today’s weather was perfect for the first group of children taking part in a free road safety school holiday program at the SA Police Road Safety Centre.

The fun and informative school holiday program provides an opportunity for children to gain valuable road safety education.

Traditionally this opportunity has been provided as part of school excursions, but SA Police are now offering a school holiday program.

Ten sessions covering two age groups (5-8 and 9-12) are taking place these school holidays, at the centre on Port Road at Thebarton.

Twenty-eight participants took part in a two-hour program today, which consisted of a classroom session, followed by a ride on the mock roadway. The centre’s mascot ‘police dog Jeff’ even made an appearance!

The sessions for children aged 5-8 are fully booked, however there are limited spaces available for children aged 9-12 years on Thursday 10 January, Wednesday 16 January, Tuesday 22 January and Thursday 24 January.

To make a booking please contact the Road Safety Section via email at SAPOL:[email protected]. Please include the following details in the email:

  • preferred date
  • name of participant
  • age of participant
  • parent / guardian name / phone number / postal address /email
  • participant’s medical issues
  • participant’s riding ability.

A member of the Road Safety Section will then confirm the request.

The community are also reminded that the mock roadway is available for public use throughout the school holidays when not in use by SA Police.
