Today marks the first day of the December/January school holidays across the Northern Territory.
With well over 600 free and low-cost programs and activities on offer across Alice Springs and Central Australia, Greater Darwin Region, Katherine and Big Rivers, Tennant Creek and Barkly, and across the Top End and East Arnhem, children and young people will find plenty to keep them entertained over the school holidays.
Highlights across the regions in the lead up to Christmas, including Christmas Eve include:
Alice Springs
Late night drop ins, art activities, disco, rock climbing and water sports at Brown Street.Art activities, late night drop ins, girls’ room, ten pin lock-in and street soccer at The Gap.Fitness and squash activities at Get Physical Fitness and Squash Centre.Christmas craft, baby rhyme time, pre-school storytime, drone workshop and robotics at the library.Free entry through the school holidays plus community cook-ups, crafts, cultural activities and multi-sports at the Town Pool.Teen fit, rock climbing and Zumba at The Y.Bike riding, bike fixing and bike mechanics, plus movie making at Albrecht Oval.Movie making, music at the Youth Zone in the Todd Mall.
Plus, a skate workshop at the Skate Park, 3×3 basketball at Yipirinya School, and free movie screenings at the Alice Springs cinema and much more.
Darwin and Palmerston/rural
Reel Connections Fishing Club and Reel life skills, Hoops 4 Health workshops and Dragon Boat paddling.LEGO at the museum and the Dalay Reading Club at all City of Darwin libraries.Skateboarding, afternoon and evening activities, circus workshops, music with Riley P and learn to embroider at The SHAK.Activities, Riley P and Esports comp at the PYC, and drop-in sports and Christmas cooking at the Palmerston Recreation Centre.Board games, puzzles and gaming, young Mulligas and Cudjeries, Christmas crafts and nail art at The Y Up-Top.

Katherine
Christmas crafts and painting at Katherine School of the Air, and arts and crafts at Headspace.Decorate a barra at East side hub, and story time and craft at the library.Learn to skate and roller-skating and drop-in sessions at the YMCA.Barbering and mentoring at the Youth Outreach and Re-engagement Centre.Free movies at the Katherine Cinema.
Barkly
Crafts, chess club and LEGO play at the Tennant Creek Library.Family fun day BBQ and water play activities at the Tennant Creek Town Pool.Basketball, mum and children cooking, and a Christmas Day breakfast at Tennant Creek Youth Centre.Connection through horses in Elliott, Marlinja, Mulga CLA, Wuppa CLA, Village CLA, Kargaru CLA, Mungkarta and Ali Curung.
East Arnhem
