CISA Congratulated For Ten Years Of Strong Advocacy

As the Council of International Students Australia (CISA) celebrates its tenth anniversary, its strong
advocacy on behalf of international students has been welcomed by the Independent Tertiary Education
Council Australia (ITECA), the peak body representing independent providers in the higher education.

vocational education, training and skills sectors.

“CI SA has been a consistent advocate for the interests of international students in Australia and ITECA has
always welcomed our engagement with them,” said Troy Williams, ITECA Chief Executive.

CISA was formed on 7 July 2010 through the joint efforts of the N ational Union of Students (NUS), Council
of Australian Postgraduate Associations (CAPA) and the Australian Federation of International Students
(AFIS). Since its formation, CISA has sought to connect, empower and improve the wellbeing of
international stud ents by discussing and sharing information on a range of important issues.

“More than 200,000 international students are studying with independent tertiary education providers
across Australia. As ITECA works with our members to identify opportunities to best support these
students, CISA is a trusted point of contact,” Mr Williams said.

The Covid -19 crisis has hit the international education sector hard and imperi lled the welfare of some
international students. In this environment, CISA’s work has never be en more critical according to ITECA.

“As independent tertiary education providers and government at all levels identif y the challenges before
international students in Australia and work to address these, CISA’s contribution to these discussions has
been both timely and insightful,” Mr Williams said.

CISA is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a series of events held over July 2020.

“On behalf of the ITECA Board, members and staff, it’s with great pleasure that I acknowledge the
important work of C ISA on its tenth anniversary. We look forward to our continued engagement,”
Mr Williams concluded.
