The streets are alive with the sound of music this November, with Council hosting daily performances on city streets and a free lunchtime festival for our community to celebrate Good Music Month.
The City of Adelaide through the Adelaide Economic Development Agency is a major supporter of Good Music Month, a new annual, state-wide, open access live music festival organised by not-forprofit organisation MusicSA.
The festival will provide a platform for South Australian artists, venues, and industry professionals to showcase their talents to local and interstate audiences.
To complement the Good Music Month events, the City of Adelaide has organised Music in the Streets, which will see local musicians perform at high foot traffic locations every day during the month of November to serenade morning commuters or provide a soundtrack to their lunchtime.
There will also be a photographic exhibition ‘Adelaide Babylon’ and talk by photographer Eric Algra in the City Library showcasing Adelaide’s live music scene over 30 years, as well as several performances from high-profile local artists at libraries and community centres across the city and North Adelaide.
The calendar of events culminates with Music in the Square, a free two-hour festival in Hindmarsh Square / Mukata on 30 November. There will be food trucks and several performances from local acts, with city workers encouraged to wear their favourite Australian Music T-shirt to the free concert to celebrate Ausmusic T-Shirt Day.
Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith said the range of initiatives will amplify Adelaide’s status as Australia’s only global UNESCO City of Music.
“It’s important we celebrate the many talented musicians and performers we have in this city, as well as our proud live music heritage in our pubs, clubs and venues,” said the Lord Mayor.
“I’m sure Music in the Streets will put a spring in people’s step during their morning commute as they head to work.
“It will be great to see a huge crowd of city workers wearing their favourite Australian music T-shirts, enjoying a free lunchtime concert as we wrap-up a lively month in the city.
“I hope Good Music Month will provide a platform for local artists while helping activate our live music venues and hospitality businesses, bringing more people into the city.”
