YMCA Victoria will continue to operate the Peter Krenz Centre in Eaglehawk for the next five years.
City of Greater Bendigo Active and Healthy Communities Manager Amy Johnston said the City has awarded a new five-year contract to YMCA Victoria for the management of the Peter Krenz Centre until June 30, 2027.
“The Peter Krenz Centre has a long association with the YMCA and the new contract will provide continuity for patrons who use the facility,” Ms Johnston said.
“The new five-year contract ensures the community, including facility members, will continue to receive the high and ongoing service standards they expect.
“The centre caters to people of all ages and abilities and facilities include a 50metre indoor heated pool, multi-use pool, toddlers pool, water slide, spa, sauna and gymnasium.
“As managers of the centre YMCA Victoria will also continue to run a range of fitness and swim programs to support patrons on their journey to a healthier lifestyle.”
Earlier this year the City of Greater Bendigo announced it is looking to undertake a long-term, multi-staged redevelopment of Peter Krenz Centre to create a more diverse and vibrant community hub.
A new community hub building would connect to the Centre’s existing aquatic facilities and include:
- A new Library
- A new indoor / outdoor café
- A 24/7 gym with strength and exercise equipment, group fitness and wellness rooms
- Some rooms with kitchenettes and storage that could be used flexibly by community groups and service providers for meetings and other activities
- Public toilets to serve the wider precinct
The project will involve demolishing part of the centre’s existing building and constructing a new addition from about where the main entry is located towards Lake Neangar.
However, the project is currently unfunded and will require considerable future funding commitments from the City and the Victorian and Australian Governments.
The operation of Peter Krenz Centre will be unaffected while the City seeks funding.
