The City of Greater Bendigo is pleased to congratulate Cr George Flack OAM on receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day 2020 Honours List.
Cr Flack was recognised for his service to the community, particularly his involvement in the Marist Brass Band, Athletics Bendigo, Bendigo Athletic Club, Central Victoria District 15 Swimming Association, Bendigo Fire Brigade and CFA Victoria.
Cr Flack also started the Bendigo chapter of Relay for Life and was the group’s founding Chair.
His nomination also considered his services to the financial industry.
On behalf of Council and the community, Mayor Cr Margaret O’Rourke congratulated Cr Flack on this significant achievement.
“George has been a great community-minded person over many years and his commitment to volunteering, mentoring others and supporting his areas of interest, particularly sport and music, make him a worthy recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia,” Cr O’Rourke said.
“Council looks forward to formally congratulating Cr Flack at the February Council meeting.”
Cr Flack will be officially presented with his Medal of the Order of Australia later in the year.
He said he was honoured to be recognised in this way.
“The award is really in acknowledgement of the associations I have been involved with and supported over more than 50 years,” he said.
“It has been a privilege to work with so many people who share my passion for music, the fire brigade, sport and raising funds for cancer research. I share this award with the many people I have met along the way.”
