Belmont Dog Park users are being invited to share their views on the preferred surface for the popular canine play space moving into the future.
It was recently announced that a combination of winter growing conditions, rain and heavy use of Belmont Dog Park Dog led to the decision to fence off the central grassed area of the popular park from Thursday 11 May until late October.
Now, with the prospect of avoiding closing off sections of the park through winter, the City is inviting users to go online and complete a survey indicating their preferred surface within the Barrabool Rd precinct.
Part of the survey asks dog owners if they are happy for a portion of the park to be cordoned off for a part of the year, to protect the central grassed area, or if they would prefer the whole area to be surfaced with granitic material, thus avoiding the closure of sections through winter.
The proposed material is the same as the granitic material already found within the park.
Belmont Dog Park users can . The engagement closes on Friday 11 August 2023.
Mayor Trent Sullivan
I encourage dog owners using the park to have their say.
The Belmont Dog Park is a really important community asset and we’re delighted that it has become such a popular place for dog owners to take their much-loved pets.
However, with that popularity comes the impact of incredibly heavy use resulting in significant damage to the grassed area.
Now we have a viable alternative to routinely cordoning off the central area, so I urge pet owners to consider their preference and provide some direction on the future of the park by completing the short survey.
Councillor Eddy Kontelj – Active Spaces portfolio chair
I join Mayor Sullivan in welcoming community input. The community of pet owners using the Belmont Dog Park is a large and vibrant one.
We’ve long known that the facility is a terrific gathering place where people come together, not just to exercise their dogs, but also to enjoy the company of others with similar affection for their four-legged friends.
This survey forms an opportunity for Belmont Dog Park users to have genuine input into the future of the popular facility.
