City Manager Alan Young’s Retirement

Alan Young bring presented the Key to the City from Mayor Frank Carbone

City Manager, Alan Young PSM, announced his retirement at last night’s Council Meeting after almost 23 years of service at Fairfield City Council.

His time in local government started 47 years ago and has spanned across seven councils in the Sydney Metropolitan area.

Alan is recognised for his significant contribution to Fairfield City. In 2019 he was awarded a Public Service Medal in the Australia Day Honours, a fitting tribute to a great leader.

Since joining Fairfield City Council in 1999, Alan has built a proactive culture in the organisation and gained the respect and admiration of his peers. His prudent financial management has ensured Council’s sustainability now and into the future.

Some key achievements during his tenure with Council include:

  • Winning the prestigious A R Bluett Award for ‘most progressive council in NSW’ in 2018
  • The transformation of Cabramatta into a destination
  • Fairfield Youth and Community Centre
  • Aquatopia Water Park
  • Sustainable Resource Centre
  • Town centre upgrades
  • Fairfield Showground redevelopment.

Alan was presented with the Key to Fairfield City by Mayor Frank Carbone, and the first floor social room at the Fairfield Showground Pavilion will be named after him as a permanent reminder of his contribution to Council and the City.

Alan’s warm and generous nature will be missed; along with his expertise, knowledge and leadership, and we wish him all the best for his retirement.
