The City of Greater Bendigo has been recognised for its work and commitment to social justice and gender equity at the LGPro Awards for Excellence recently held in Melbourne.
City of Greater Bendigo Healthy Communities and Environment Director Stacy Williams said the City won the Diversity and Inclusion awards category for its work in developing a Social Justice Framework and Equity Impact Assessment (EIA) tool to improve equity, inclusion and support human rights in the community.
“We are thrilled to see the City and its staff receive this recognition for the work we have done and continue to do to promote gender equity and social justice throughout the organisation and the community,” Ms Wiliams said.
“EIAs use a people, place and experience lens to consider how policies, programs and services affect different genders and diverse groups in different ways.
“They recommend changes that help to create a more fair and inclusive community and have resulted in meaningful changes to policy, program and service delivery to achieve more equitable outcomes for the community while equipping staff to identify and remove barriers to equity and inclusion in everyday business.”
